Isn’t She Lovely….?

Well, we have a new arrival in our Fire Brew family and her name is Clove. Pretty – huh?

Bella Clove

We’re very excited about this new blend. Not just for its earthly flavor, full of base notes, that unfolds like a symphony in your mouth but for all the health benefits the herbs impart. Let’s talk about what some of those things are:

Cloves: This warm, aromatic spice helps reduce inflammation due to its main component, Eugenol. It’s also high in some crucial vitamins and minerals such as manganese, Vitamin K, iron, magnesium and calcium.

Burdock: Rich in vitamins and minerals (iron, magnesium, thiamine, etc), burdock is excellent for skin related imbalances (i.e. eczema, psoriasis, acne). It’s a very cooling herb and promotes healthy kidney function, and is excellent blood purifier. The herb is also helpful for gout and rheumatism.

Dandelion: Dandelion is another powerhouse herb. It is a stimulant to the liver (encouraging the flow of bile) and is considered a very safe diuretic. It is also packed with vitamins and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, iron and vitamins A and C.

Sarsaparilla: Proven to have beneficial properties that improve skin conditions, joint pain, fatigue and hormone balances in both men and women. The herb also has numerous anti inflammatory and anti bacterial qualities.

Anise: Works as a digestive aid and expels gas. Wonderful for colic.

Fennel: Great for nursing mothers to increase milk flow, works as an antacid (neutralizing the stomach and intestines), stimulates digestion and relieves gas.

Wow – can it be August already??

Say it isn’t so? I’ve been meaning to hop on here to write an update about our health tonics but we’re so busy with our heads in the Brew it’s been hard to come up for air! We hope you guys have been getting out there and enjoying summer and doing all the things the season brings – from jumping in lakes, to flying kites, to sitting by a campfire or two!

Besides making Fire Brew, we’ve spent most of our time at food “crop ups” and Farmers Markets so we can’t really complain. We’ve also been lucky enough for a number of new establishments to take a chance on us and our curiously strong (wait a minute, I think that’s been used before but it’s true!) health tonics.

We have a couple of new blends coming out soon so watch for them. Post some pictures you have with the Brew and let us know; we’ll pop you a free 2 oz bottle in the mail! In the meantime here are a few updates pictures! Thank you to everyone!!

Summer time, summer time…

The months seem to fly and next thing you know, another school year is over! One of the best things about summers though are….? Farmers Markets!

We are very excited to be working at a number of markets, with more to be added, and we do hope you’ll stop by! We will have all of our healthy blends for sale…and will offer you shots with a smile. 🙂

You may see any or all the us at the markets. For now we’re at Beaverton most Saturdays, OHSU some Tuesdays and hopefully Woodstock shortly!

Let’s talk about Ian and Deadstock Coffee

The best part of my job is the people I meet. Really. I love going out and talking about Fire Brew whether I’m directly talking to customers at the Farmers Market or shop owners thinking about carrying the product. Some people have lots of questions before they commit and some get an immediate sense and decide to take a chance on the product right on the spot. Some shops are very manicured and super curated and some are more raw and reflect the local color in which they inhabit. And I love them all for these reasons.

Ian and his shop Deadstock lives in the latter category.

I first met Ian when I went to visit my husband at his office in the Goldsmith building in Chinatown. One day there was nothing in the building lobby and then all a sudden there was a rag-tag set up of a couple of chairs and tables, a counter and an espresso machine…and Ian serving up coffee and good conversation. It was different. He was different. It was almost like hitting up your good friend for a cup of coffee, half expecting it to be for free but then realizing it wasn’t.

After a few trial months, Ian decided to bust a move and actually open a full-fledged store next to the building he started in. And the store has the exact same vibe as the lobby set up! When you walk in, you’re not quite sure what’s going on and almost feel inclined to hop behind the counter yourself and help yourself to a cup of coffee. But then somehow, someone (most of the time Ian) appears to serve it up.

The best part of Deadstock besides the coffee? They clean sneakers too! Seriously! Drop off your favorite, scuffed up pair and for a fee he’ll make them look brand new.

Now that’s service!

Fettle Botanic Supply & Counsel

We’re very lucky here at Fire Brew because we get to engage with customers that are in sync with our passion to work with natural remedies, local vendors and consumers on a journey to improve their health. It’s all so personal and being able to interact in a community of true camaraderie is a dream come true for us.

That’s why we love Fettle Botanic Supply & Counsel on Hawthorne Blvd.

Fettle, which used to be the Herb Shoppe, has been around since 2005 and they offer resources, education and products focusing on herbal medicine and health. The staff is extremely knowledgable and their botanical medicines are always sourced from places of the highest integrity. Whenever we go in there, we feel calm. And when we leave, we feel revived and on a path to greater vitality than before we went in.

Thanks guys!

It takes a village and I’m glad FH Steinbart and Co. is in mine!

It’s true. These guys rock!

When I first started making Fire Brew about a year ago, I had no idea what I was doing. Literally. And little by little, I started experimenting and trying new things and learning new things all the time. But when I made my way to FH Steinbart and Co. my learning curve really took off and we all took a deep dive together into the world of Fire Brew..

From Lee, to Eric, to Frye and, of course, John, these guys have made the experience of starting a business so much less stressful and have been an invaluable resource on many levels. Their knowledge of brewing beverages (even if it’s not alcoholic) is so deep that every time I leave the place, I’ve discover some tidbit of information or walk out with a new tool that enriches my experience (not to mention generally saves me time and money!).

Here’s my latest acquisition from them – a used press!!!

So…long live FH Steinbart and Co.. You guys are the best!

Garden Brew is here!

Wow! What a ride! Starting a food business is exhilarating and exhausting all at the same time…and we wouldn’t trade it for anything. We’ve been busy here at Mind Your Manna learning all sorts of new things about how to create the best health tonic out there on the market. We have gotten great feedback from our customers and people have been ordering from this site all across the states! Exciting!

Recently, we’ve introduced our latest flavor – GARDEN – and it is tasty! It’s our base blend infused with kale and spinach and lots of powerhouse greens. Give it a try!

We also are now selling ‘sampler packs’ from the site. So…if you’re not sure which flavor to try, this may be a good route for you. Our 3 packs are sold in two sizes – 3/12.7 oz bottles and….
